This week, a fan-favorite muppet became TikTok's biggest meme, Luigi Mangione memes shot up in popularity and Marvel Rivals characters made their big debut.

Luigi Mangione refers to the Suspected UnitedHealthcare CEO Shooter, the gunman who assassinated UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City on December 4th, 2024. Luigi Mangione was detained at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania on December 9th. On his person, he reportedly had a manifesto, a fake ID and a "ghost gun" that matched the description of the firearm used to kill Thompson. Mangione notably received a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Science in Engineering from Penn State University. Initially, the assassin and main "person of interest" was unidentified. The shooter had escaped the scene of the crime outside of the Hilton Hotel in Midtown, Manhattan, fleeing on an e-bike to Central Park. Both before and after his identity was revealed, the shooter was widely celebrated on social media sites like Twitter / X, TikTok and Reddit, often portrayed as a hero who challenged the perceivably corrupt American healthcare system.

Marvel Rivals Rule 34 refers to 3D pornography and other NSFW imagery created using character models from the 2024 hero shooter video game Marvel Rivals. At the time of the game's release in December 2024, the anticipated and hyped-up arrival of such content became a prevalent subject of jokes and memes on social media, with early 3D animations using a model of the character Squirrel Girl arriving within days of the video game's release. The trend has been compared to and generally considered inspired by 3D pornography based on models from the 2015 hero shooter game Overwatch.

Cooking With Kya or Cookinwitkya, real name Kya Renee, is a content creator known for her cooking videos on TikTok and Instagram, beginning each video by dancing and twerking with a plate of food while chanting, "Cooking with Kya, Cooking with Kya." Kya's content first became popular on Instagram, She garnered a significant following throughout 2024 on Instagram and TikTok and became the subject of memes and thirsting that December when a video of her doing her intro dance with a breakfast plate went viral. As of December 2024, Kya Renee has over 780,000 followers on Instagram and 850,000 followers on TikTok.
